De-Stress Christmas
Here’s how to slow down and enjoy the festive season
We all know how stressful Christmas can be. Shopping, too much partying, getting the house ready for the family coming to stay, finishing off work in time and even the thought of seeing relatives that you only see once a year can all contribute to rising levels of stress and if we are not careful they could make us ill. As a result we miss out on the festive fun. Pacing yourself, getting plenty of sleep and planning ahead are key to a calm and happy day. There are also some relaxing herbs that can help to keep you on an even keel.
RHODIOLA
Rhodiola rosea known commonly as golden root, or Aaron’s rod is considered by herbalists to be an adaptogen meaning it has an ability to increase the body’s resistance. It is used to reduce fatigue, build up strength and energy – just what you need in the run-up to the festivities.
SIBERIAN GINSENG
Ginseng is another adaptogen, which is thought to help the body cope with the stress of physical exertion, sleep deprivation, infections, psychological upsets and more. So if each of the 12 days of Christmas becomes more stressful than the one before why not try a dose of Siberian ginseng? It boosts the adrenal glands - the small glands above the kidneys that secrete stress-fighting hormones
VALERIAN
Well known for its calming effects in difficult situations, this is a great herb for helping you to relax at this time of year. A cup of valerian tea before bed or during the day if the going gets difficult is an easy way to reap the benefits. This herb is also available in supplement form.
