Happy Days
If you are feeling down after the fun of the festivities here are some herbs to put the spring back in your step.
After the fun and cheer of the past few weeks January days can seem long and dull especially if your next holiday seems a long way off. Cold wet weather and maybe worry about all that spending you did around Christmas can also trigger a bout of the January blues.
If this sounds familiar and you are starting to feel down in the dumps the secret is to take some positive action as fast as you can with some uplifting herbal remedies. St John’s wort, sometimes known as the sunshine herb, will help to bring some light into your life and hopefully a smile to your face. Several studies show that St John’s wort can be as effective as drugs such as Prozac for dealing with depression. Although it is not known exactly how it works it is thought it boosts immunity and maintains levels of the feel-good hormone serotonin in the brain.
Meanwhile if you are feeling overwhelmed with post-Christmas lethargy or just tired and fed up with life, rhodiola may be the herb for you. Like St John’s wort, it helps to boost levels of serotonin in the brain, which in turn can help to lift the spirits.
Finally comes panax ginseng. Belonging to a group of herbs known as adaptogens, which are thought to help strengthen the adrenals and balance the system generally, it is especially good for boosting vitality and energy, both of which are generally at low levels when you are feeling down
