Help for Heavy Legs
Although not serious, heavy legs can be very uncomfortable
Around 50 per cent of women are thought to suffer from ‘heavy’ legs at some time. Sitting down or standing up for long periods as well as lack of exercise are common causes. Circulation problems, pregnancy and the menopause are other possible factors.
In the first instance you should get symptoms, which can also include aches and pains in legs, checked out with your doctor. Then if you would prefer to go down the alternative route there are some herbs that may help to bring relief.
Horse chestnut has long been a popular European folk remedy for circulation problems and research shows that it can reduce pain. It is also available as a gel, which can be rubbed into legs to help boost circulation locally. Another herb, butcher’s broom is a great tonic for circulation, while gingko biloba is well known for helping to keep circulation in the legs on the move.
