Turmeric for Alzheimer’s
Could curry be about to enter the healthy eating stakes? According to Professor Doraiswamy from Duke University in North Carolina, eating curry three times a week could help to prevent Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. And the magic ingredient is curcumin, a component of turmeric. It seems it may help to prevent the spread of harmful amyloid plaques, which are thought to play a key role in memory loss and mental impairment. A trial is now underway at the University of California to test the effects of curcumin in Alzheimer’s patients and in particular on amyloid proteins.
